Privacy policy
Effective 13 October 2026. Applies to the IrisSpeak app (irisspeak.com and the iPadOS app) and to this website, irisspeak.org, both operated by Families Inspiring Neurodiverse Development (“FIND”, “we”).
The short version
- IrisSpeak's language models run on your device. Conversations are not sent to any cloud AI service to be predicted or composed.
- We show no advertising, use no advertising or tracking networks, and never sell or rent personal information.
- You can use the app without telling us who you are. If you create an account to sync across devices, we store only what is needed to provide that service.
Information the app handles
On your device
The app keeps the recent conversation history, the custom cards you add and your settings in the browser's or device's local storage so that predictions improve over time. This data stays on the device unless you sign in to an account.
Accounts (optional)
An account lets a family or school use the same cards and settings on several devices. For an account we store an email address or sign-in identifier, the custom cards and short descriptions you add, your settings, and the card sequences and approved sentences from your conversations, so that they can be restored on another device. Account data is stored with our hosting providers in the United States and is protected in transit by TLS. You may ask us to delete your account and all associated data at any time by email.
Speech
If you use the microphone to ask a question, speech recognition is performed by your device's or browser's built-in speech service (for example Apple's or Google's), under that provider's privacy terms. IrisSpeak receives only the resulting text. Text-to-speech is performed on the device.
Diagnostics
The app may record anonymous technical information (such as a model download failing or an error message) to help us fix problems. This information does not include conversation content.
Children
IrisSpeak is designed to be operated by a communication partner — a parent, guardian, teacher or therapist — together with the person using the cards, who is often a child. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 directly. Accounts are created and managed by adults. If you believe a child has provided us personal information without a guardian's consent, contact us and we will delete it.
This website
irisspeak.org is a static website hosted on Cloudflare. We do not set analytics or advertising cookies. Cloudflare may process connection data (such as IP address) to serve the site and defend against abuse, under Cloudflare's privacy policy. The app's model files are served from a content delivery network under the same conditions.
Sharing
We share personal information only with the service providers that host the app and its data, and only so that they can provide those services; or when required by law. We do not share conversation content with anyone for research without explicit, separate consent.
Your choices and rights
- Use the app without an account; clear local data from your browser or device settings at any time.
- Request a copy or deletion of your account data by email.
- Residents of California and other jurisdictions with privacy laws have additional rights to access, correct and delete personal information; we honour these for all users.
